MedECC welcomes new Coordinators and Steering Committee members

The Mediterranean Experts on Climate and environmental Change (MedECC) is an open and independent network of scientists dedicated to climate and ecological change in the Mediterranean Basin.

Established in 2015, MedECC brings together experts across various disciplines to provide decision-makers, stakeholders and the public with the most reliable and updated scientific knowledge on climate and environmental changes including associated risks and social aspects.

Their assessments aim at shaping evidence-based policies and supporting informed mitigation and adaptation actions.

MedECC scientists contribute to MedECC reports, all in an individual capacity and without financial compensation.

Lately, MedECC announced three new Steering Committee Members, following an open call for experts in fall 2024.

Maria P. Papadopoulou, Professor at the School of Rural & Surveying Engineering at the National Technical University of Athens, Director of the Laboratory of Physical Geography and Environmental Impacts, and President of the Natural Environment and Climate Change Agency, is one of them.

Mrs Papadopoulou has participated as Coordinating Lead Author in the Summary for Policymakers and in Chapter 5 “Governance, policies (and research) options for the Water – Energy – Food – Ecosystem nexus (focus on EU policies, South and East Med.)” of the MedECC’s Special Report “Interlinking climate change with the Water – Energy – Food – Ecosystems (WEFE) nexus in the Mediterranean Basin”.
