Nisyros Dialogues 2025, “The Eastern Mediterranean in the Vortex of Geopolitical Changes”

The “Nisyros Dialogues 2025” were held for the fourth year on the island (July 3-6) at Stefanos Crater, by the “Georgios M. Mihalos Foundation – Sustainability of Nisyros”, under the auspices of the President of the Republic, Constantine Tasoulas, and the Ecumenical Patriarch, His Holiness Bartholomew.

The central theme of this year’s event is “The Eastern Mediterranean in the Vortex of Geopolitical Changes”.

Individual thematic sections include the geopolitical dynamics of the Eastern Mediterranean, energy security and new balances of power, artificial intelligence and the space economy, the digital transition of islands, the resilience of infrastructure and societies, and the interculturality of the Eastern Mediterranean.

Representatives from the government, the opposition, international diplomacy, the scientific community, civil society, and the market participated.

Prof. NTUA, Director of the Laboratory of Physical Geography and Environmental Impacts Assessment and President of the Natural Environment and Climate Change Agency (N.E.C.C.A.), Maria P. Papadopoulou, in her intervention at the “Nisyros Dialogues 2025”, spoke about the importance of the natural environment and culture as key axes for highlighting and exploiting the tourist advantage of our country.

Ms. Papadopoulou referred to the uninterrupted presence of N.E.C.C.A. on Nisyros, emphasizing that the Organization will be on the island to highlight all the comparative advantages of the island (volcano, marine protected areas, unique biodiversity, endemic species).

In this context, N.E.C.C.A. will continue to support all areas throughout the territory that possess unique natural wealth, under the commitments we have undertaken as a country and those set by the European Commission for the terrestrial and marine environment.

Very soon, noted Ms. Papadopoulou, taking into account the positive news about the Nisyros Geopark, there will be greater prospects for this specific area.
