The Natural Environment and Climate Change Agency (NECCA) organized this round table with the moderator Professor Maria Papadopoulou President of NECCA, and guest speakers Professor Kostas Synolakis President of the College of Athens, Professor Phoebe Koundouri University Economics and the Deputy Director and Head of Unit of the General Directorate for Maritime Policy and the Blue Economy, Mr. Christos Economou.
In her introductory position, Professor Papadopoulou referred to the current challenge of CC and the need for mobilization of science, the state and the society, in order to have a targeted response to the widespread CC effects.
Then Professor K. Synolakis referred to the main points of the Greek Climate Law, which is in the final stage of elaboration by the Ministry of Environment with the assistance of National Council of Climate Change.
Professor Kountouri spoke about the challenges and opportunities arising from the European Green Agreement. She spoke about the financial tools that give the opportunity to European countries, such as Greece, to set high goals for the efficient use of their resources, the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and the transition to a green and sustainable economy with significant benefits for Greek society.
Finally, Mr. Oikonomou referred to the opportunities from the recent announcement of the European Commission for the sustainable blue economy and the need for synergies between the sectoral actions to maximize the benefit.
